Follow in our footsteps – offline with a GPS guided App!
You know those times when you’re wandering through a city and you think, I read something about this place, now what was it? Of course you’re overseas, so you don’t have data roaming on your phone and can’t go back to the website that inspired you to visit this amazing city in the first place – even if you could find that particular story among the hundreds of sites you looked at in the name of research.
So what do you do? Kick yourself for not writing it down? Fumble your way through, looking for clues that might help you remember the key points? Or forget all about the article and just continue on with your sightseeing?
Ade and I often follow in other people’s footsteps when we travel, we did the whole crossing by cable car from Chamonix to La Palud because we read about it in a book. We followed their journey precisely (we had taken notes, luckily) and we visited India purely because we saw our friend Barb’s photos and decided they looked so awesome we just had to go!
We’ve done our research and taken notes, sometimes we’ve even stored photos on our devices in the hope we could find just that place to take our own photo!
But now the people at GPSMycity have made it so much easier to actually walk in the footsteps of your favourite blogger or blogpost.
With their awesome new travel Apps you can read your chosen travel story offline – handy for when you’re on a plane and doing that last minute research on your chosen location, on a train or bus and need something to read; something that will get you excited about your next destination, or for when you’ve arrived in the city and wander, where do I go first?!
With a GPSmycity App, you read the blog story as you would online, but suddenly you don’t need to be connected to the internet; the stories and let’s face it, most importantly, the photos that first inspired you, are right there on your phone or tablet.
You can download the Apps for free, but perhaps you want a little more. Perhaps you would like to know how to get from point A in the travel story to point B? Well, this is where the GPSmycity App really comes in handy.
You can upgrade to the full version ($1.99), which is empowered with GPS Navigator. In the paid version, all icons, restaurants, hotels etc, mentioned in the post are highlighted on a map so you can literally walk in the footsteps of your favourite blogger! All you need to do is hit the ‘Go there’ button next to the named icon in the travel article and the destination will be plotted on a map for you – all offline. How cool is that?
And now for the really exciting bit! You can now download AllAbroad posts in App form, so you can follow in OUR footsteps!
From today you’ll be able to download Apps for:
Calgary – From foodtrucks to Jamaican bobsledding
Download it here
Colombo – A city of surprises
Download it here
And if you get in quick, you’ll be able to upgrade to the full version of the Colombo App completely free until Sunday 20 November! Very handy if you’re planning to travel to Sri Lanka anytime soon, or if you just want to play around with the App and see what the benefits of it are.
You may need to search on the city name or scroll through the various travel stories to find our pieces.
